A Word From Dr. Stanley

May 2021

Years ago at seminary, a conversation I had with an older student made a lasting impression. He showed through Scripture that God’s Spirit is not an “it” but a “He.” The third person of the Trinity is a divine being who can be pleased or saddened and who communicates with us. In John 14:26, Jesus explained the Holy Spirit was sent to help you grow as a Christian—to “teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.” At this time of year, many churches celebrate the arrival of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. It’s a wonderful time to be more aware of His presence. As you make your way through these readings, let Him help you walk in Christ’s footsteps. It’s not always an easy journey, but it’s full of joy.
