Do you ever struggle to find the right words when you pray, or wonder if God really hears you? Prayer frustration leaves many believers feeling disconnected from God and inadequate in their walk with Him. Dr. Stanley unveils how the Holy Spirit serves as your divine Helper in prayer—interceding when you don't know what to say and aligning your heart with God's will.
Sermon Outline
If you’ve ever been unmotivated to pray because you felt confused or simply had no idea where to start, there’s good news. You’re not supposed to figure it out alone. In this week’s message, Dr. Stanley explores how the Holy Spirit helps us speak to God with confidence.
Key Passage: Romans 8:26-27
Supporting Passages: Matthew 6:31-32; John 16:12-13; Hebrews 4:13
If we understand what really takes place when we pray, we’ll do so more often (and likely see greater results).
► “God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all involved every single time we pray.”
The Holy Spirit is …
Our practical helper—He assists us when we struggle to pray (Rom. 8:26-27).
Our personal helper—He indwells us forever, so He is always present and empowers us to do God’s will (v. 26).
Our available helper—He is intimately involved in our life and never “too busy.”
Our able helper—He is part of the triune Godhead. He will never miscommunicate.
► “God knows we have frustrations and aren’t sure what to ask for.”
How does the Holy Spirit help us in prayer?
He understands our weaknesses (v. 26).
He knows our needs and desires (Matt. 6:31-32; Heb. 4:13).
He reveals the Father’s will to us.
► “When you read a verse and think, This has my name on it, that’s the Spirit’s work.”
He gives us guidance using God’s Word and testifies to our spirit.
He opens our eyes to the truth (John 16:12-13) and reveals the mind of God with regard to our concerns.
He knows our heart and intercedes on our behalf (Rom. 8:26-27).
►“The Holy Spirit knows us perfectly. He understands us.”
After Watching
Consider this: Holy Spirit knows exactly who you are. Does this create any particular feeling within you—relief, uncertainty, joy, or perhaps even shame? Whatever sensation comes to mind, don’t worry. It takes time to foster a relationship with Him, and He is ready to help you grow.
Each day this coming week, try keeping a prayer journal. Spend time seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance or expressing a need. Date each entry and record any insight He reveals, whether it’s a passage from the Bible or some other form of wisdom. This is something you can revisit to see evidence of His work in your life over time.
