The Passion to Obey

As we grow in faith and dive deeper into God’s Word, our devotion to Him becomes stronger.

John 14:15-18

A passion to obey God doesn’t just spring up, full-blown, the second we get saved. We do enter our new life in Christ with a desire to please Him, but a determined pursuit of His will develops over time.

In fact, many of us often begin our walk with mixed motivations: relief, gratitude, a desire to make things right. But as we grow in faith and learn how deeply God loves us, something shifts. What may have started out feeling like obligation quietly becomes devotion.

Progressing from one motivation to the other begins with what you might expect: a growing knowledge of the Lord. As we dig into God’s Word, we learn who He is—His heart, His character, His will. We begin to see how He has provided in the past and trust that He’ll provide in the future. We’ll recognize the wisdom of obeying our heavenly Father, not just because of the promised blessings, but because He knows what’s best and loves us.

Wherever you are on the spectrum between obligation and devotion, there’s a way to move in the right direction. Commit to obeying God and reading His Word daily to learn how to stay faithful. God is with you in the pursuit and eager to complete what He has begun in you (Phil. 1:6).
