The Power Within

God doesn't call us to serve in our own strength—He provides the Holy Spirit to empower us.

Ephesians 3:14-21

Here’s a sobering truth: In our own strength, we’ll never become better people. We can’t improve our fallen nature through willpower or good intentions.

But the good news is, God never intended for us to try. He knew we couldn’t transform ourselves, so He sent the Holy Spirit to live inside us. As the Spirit releases His supernatural power in our life, we are able to go beyond what comes naturally to us. This is God’s plan for every believer.

The work of the Holy Spirit in us is multifaceted, but four aspects are foundational to the life of faith:

  1. The Spirit illumines our mind, enabling us to understand truth.

  2. He energizes our body to serve the Lord.

  3. He strengthens our will to follow through on doing right.

  4. He transforms our emotions so we can feel and express the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).

Only the Holy Spirit living inside us has the strength and wisdom to live out the Christian life victoriously. That’s why God gave us His Spirit—so we could experience all the benefits of a godly life, not through our own effort, but in His strength.
